Women In Tragedy
(Toronto's leadin drone unit, first presence since Brise-Cul's Suoni night in 2007 and Bob is pissed since becaus ehe didn'T liked his set, so I guess this dude (who never play twice the same gig) will kick your ass severly... Since his last trip to Montreal, WOT got plenty of new releases on many labels including 2 LP and my favourite one, that tape on Wintage!!!)
(Holy crap, among the very good releases on my label in 2008 these two are among the top of the list I think. So expect the very abrasive noise delivery of Grkzgl with the insane Saxamaphone talent of Cabral Jacobs, not to be missed I think... On paper it sounds crazy to me!!)

The Artist formerly known as... not a huge closeted door knocking D-bag?

Source: Huffington Post

The New Yorker has an interview with Prince at his new Los Angeles home to talk about a new book, and during it talk turned to religion.

Seven years ago, he became a Jehovah's Witness. He said that he had moved to L.A. so that he could understand the hearts and minds of the music moguls. "I wanted to be around people, connected to people, for work," he said. "You know, it's all about religion. That's what unites people here. They all have the same religion, so I wanted to sit down with them, to understand the way they see things, how they read Scripture."

Prince had his change of faith, he said, after a two-year-long debate with a musician friend, Larry Graham. "I don't see it really as a conversion," he said. "More, you know, it's a realization. It's like Morpheus and Neo in 'The Matrix.' " He attends meetings at a local Kingdom Hall, and, like his fellow-witnesses, he leaves his gated community from time to time to knock on doors and proselytize. "Sometimes people act surprised, but mostly they're really cool about it," he said.

Recently, Prince hosted an executive who works for Philip Anschutz, the Christian businessman whose company owns the Staples Center. "We started talking red and blue," Prince said. "People with money--money like that--are not affected by the stock market, and they're not freaking out over anything. They're just watching. So here's how it is: you've got the Republicans, and basically they want to live according to this." He pointed to a Bible. "But there's the problem of interpretation, and you've got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn't. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you've got blue, you've got the Democrats, and they're, like, 'You can do whatever you want.' Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right."

When asked about his perspective on social issues--gay marriage, abortion--Prince tapped his Bible and said, "God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, 'Enough.' "
Squatters take over £6m Mayfair house

By Andy McSmith
Saturday, 8 November 2008

An elegant Mayfair property valued at more than £6m (even in today's depressed market) has been occupied by anarchist squatters. The penniless youths from the self-styled Da! Collective have become neighbours to some of the wealthiest individuals, swankiest restaurants and well-heeled businesses in the country.

The Grade II-listed, five-storey building with 9,000 sq ft of floor space, at 18 Upper Grosvenor Street, Mayfair, belongs to the Duke of Westminster, Britain's wealthiest private landlord, and is leased to a property firm registered in the British Virgin Islands. It now carries a black anarchist flag, flicking in the breeze.

Five squatters made their entrance last month by donning high-visibility jackets, to make them look like builders, and putting up a rented ladder against the front of the building. One man climbed up on to a balcony, and was delighted to find an unlocked window.

They have since connected up to the utilities, and say that they will pay their energy bills. Bedding paraphernalia, rucksacks and "artworks" cover the floors. The new tenants feed themselves by rummaging in bins. They claim that far from damaging the house, they are improving it after years of neglect, and deny that they are breaking the law.

"Other people can come here," one of the squatters, 21-year-old Stephanie Smith, said. "We want people to use it as project space. People can work here, stay wherever they want."

The building was the headquarters of the Iranian-born property tycoon Vincent Tchenguiz until 2005, when his Consensus Group moved into bigger premises in Park Lane. The house is considered big enough to accommodate a firm employing 310 staff.

Throughout its 250-year history, Upper Grosvenor Street, near Hyde Park, has been considered to be one of the most desirable residential areas of central London.

No 18 is one of only 15 of the street's original houses, built in the 1730s, still standing. Its former owners include a colliery owner, F Wooton Isaacson, and a Scottish landowner and Conservative MP, Sir Victor Warrender.

In addition to the US embassy around the corner in Grosvenor Square, the street houses the consulate general of Monaco and the offices of the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board. An empty two-bedroom flat near the anarchist squat is up for sale for an asking price of £1.65m.

A City law firm has been engaged by the official tenants, Deltaland Resources, to reclaim the property. Squatting is not a criminal offence in British law, but a civil matter, and if squatters remain for 12 years, and no attempt is made to evict them, they can become the property's legal owners.

"It's amazing 'ow I remembered those things from my physics class!"

I'm just an interview-posting fool today. Here's an excerpt of an old interview in which Keith waxes, um, poetic about his 21st birthday party.

Was it on this tour you had your infamous birthday party?

Yes. That's how I lost me front tooth. In Flint, Michigan. We had a show that night. We were all around the 'Oliday Inn pool, 'Erman's 'Ermits and meself. I was twenty-one, and they started giving me presents. Somebody gave me a portable bar and somebody else the portable booze. I'd started drinking about ten o'clock in the morning, and I can't remember the show. Then the record companies 'ad booked a big room in the 'otel, one of the conference rooms, for a party. As the hours went on, it got louder and louder, and everybody started getting well out their minds, well stoned. The pool was the obvious target. Everybody started jumping in the pool with their clothes on.

The Premier Drum Company 'ad given me a 'uge birthday cake, with like five drums stacked up on top of each other. As the party degenerated into a slanging, I picked up the cake, all five tiers, and hurled it at the throng. People'd started picking up the pieces and 'urling it about. Everybody was covered with marzipan and icing sugar and fruitcake. The manager 'eard the fracas and came in. There it was, his great carpet, stained irrevocably with marzipan and fruitcake trodden in, and everybody dancing about with their trousers off. By the time the sheriff came in I was standing there in me underpants. I ran out, jumped into the first car I came to, which was a brand-new Lincoln Continental. It was parked on a slight hill, and when I took the handbrake off, it started to roll and it smashed straight through this pool surround fence, and the whole Lincoln Continental went into the 'Oliday Inn swimming pool, with me in it. AH-HA-HA-HA-HA!

So there I was, sitting in the eight-foot-six in the driver's seat of a Lincoln Continental, underwater. And the water was pouring in — coming in through the bloody pedal 'oles in the floorboard, you know, squirting in through the windows. In a startling moment of logical I said, "Well, I can't open the doors until the pressure is the same. It's amazing 'ow I remembered those things from my physics class! I knew I'd 'ave to wait until the pressure was the same. So I'm sitting there, thinking about me situation, as the water creeps up to me nose. Today I can think of less outrageous ways of going than drowning in a Lincoln Continental in a 'Oliday Inn swimming pool, but at that time I 'ad no thoughts of death whatsoever. There was none of that all-me-life-passing-before-me-eyes-in-a-flash. I was busy planning. I knew if I panicked, I'd 'ave 'ad it. So when there's just enough air in the top of the car to take a gulp, I fill up me lungs, throw open the door and go rising to the top of the pool. I figured there'd be quite a crowd gathered by now. After all, I'd been down there underwater for some time. I figured they'd be so grateful I was alive, they'd overlook the Lincoln Continental. But no. There's only one person standing there and 'e's the pool cleaner, and 'es got to have the pool cleaned in the morning, and he's furious.

So I went back to the party, streaming water, still in me underpants. The first person I see is the sheriff, and he's got 'is 'and on 'is gun. Sod this! And I ran, I started to leg it out the door, and I slipped on a piece of marzipan and fell flat on me face and knocked out me tooth. Ah-ha-ha HA-HA-HAHAHA!

I spent the remainder of the night under the custody of the sheriff at a dentist's. The dentist couldn't give me any anesthetic because I was pissed out of me mind. So 'e 'ad to rip out what was left of the tooth and put a false one in, and the next day I spent a couple of hours in the nick [jail]. The boys 'ad chartered me a plane because they 'ad to leave on an earlier flight. The sheriff took me out in the law car, and he puts me on the plane and says [American accent], "Son, don't ever dock in Flint, Michigan, again." I said, "Dear boy, I wouldn't dream of it." And I was lisping around the new tooth. AH-HAHA HAHAHA!

By now I'd learned 'ow destructive we'd all been. During the merriment someone 'ad upset all the fire extinguishers and turned them on all the cars in the car park. Six of them 'ad to 'ave new paint jobs; the paint all peeled off. We'd also destroyed a piano. Completely destroyed it. Reduced it to kindling. And don't forget the carpet. And the Lincoln Continental in the bottom of the pool. So I got a bill for $24,000. AH-HAHAHAHA! I wasn't earning 'alf that on the tour, and I'd spent everything by the time I'd got to Flint, Michigan. I was in debt up past me eyebrows before this 'appened. Luckily, 'Erman's 'Ermits and the boys split it up; about thirty of us all gave a thousand dollars each. It was like a religious ceremony as we all came up and dropped a thousand dollars into a big 'at and sent it off to the 'Oliday Inn with a small compliments card with "BALLS" written across it — and the words, "See you soon."

Just found the long-lost fourth installment in The Solah Tapes, "Artifact". As some of you may remember, this was my experimental video project where I would make a short film every month or so & distribute it in random locations on a VHS tape wrapped in plastic.

"Artifact" was probably my favorite of The Solah Tapes, and I couldn't find it for a couple years. It's the only Solah film made entirely from film--Super 8 self-shot footage, 8mm found footage & hand-painted 16mm. The soundtrack is by Edward Kurland & is absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy!
Sorry about the shitty YouTube encoding, but if anyone wants to see this full-rez, I'll burn you a DVD copy.

Young Marble Giants to Do Colossal Youth at ATP

The lineup for next spring's ATP vs. the Fans just got a little bigger. A little, one might say, more Giant. Recently reunited Welsh post-punk icons Young Marble Giants will play their 1980 LP Colossal Youth in its entirety at ATP vs the Fans, which goes down May 8-10, 2009 at Minehead, England's Butlins Holiday Resort.
As of right now, Young Marble Giants' only other scheduled show is at the Swn Festival this coming weekend (November 14-16) in Cardiff, Wales.

Another recently reformed troupe, experimental rap combo Antipop Consortium, have also been added to the ATP vs the Fans lineup that already includes commitments from Devo, Spiritualized, Grails, and the reunited Sleep. Be aware that fan voting starts November 17, should you wish to get your curator on.
